Full course description

General Program Information

This online, eight-week course focuses on assets-based strategies and resources that early childhood educators can draw on to welcome, include, and engage diverse children and families who are navigating a new country, new culture, and, often, a new language. The course is open to all early childhood educators who work with students of refugee and (im)migrant backgrounds including classroom teachers, counselors, support staff, and office staff. Designed and facilitated by educators, modules are meant to be thought-provoking and immediately useful. Along with online texts & videos, discussions, and activities, participants meet together four times to deepen thinking and learning on new material; to hear from key stakeholders, expert educators, and community advocates; and to build community. Participants complete six job-embedded assignments to apply learning from each module. The course is cohort-based and facilitated, but largely asynchronous giving educators flexibility to engage when and how it makes sense for their context. Note - It can be powerful for participants to register with a partner or in a team from their school/district. We hope that participants bring back what they learn to colleagues when the school year begins in the fall.
