Full course description
General Program Information
The ultimate way to teach an applied high school level music theory course (NOT AP), so that it is fun, engaging and useful. Learn how to teach students to create music using basic music theory concepts they should already know (and if they don't, then what and how to teach them). Enjoy a workshop-like experience in your classroom as students create small and large projects that are easy for you to assess and build additional projects from. Empower your students to understand that they can create whatever they wish and how to use this skill to brighten the school community.
Objectives
- Participants will learn exactly what music theory concepts are required to teach, and what to teach if there is time.
- Participants will learn proven methods for teaching each concept.
- Participants will receive many assessment ideas for concepts and projects, and how to break up each project into several smaller assessment grades.
- Participants will learn how to create a culture in your music theory class that helps students share openly and work together.
- Participants will receive ideas on how to gamify the lackluster concepts to increase student engagement and effort.
