General Program Information
EPIC is Kentucky's first OpenSciEd-Certified Professional Learning Partner. Join us for a two-day professional learning event designed to empower high school science educators in implementing OpenSciEd- an open source, high quality instructional resource. You'll experience an anchoring phenomenon routine from a high school unit while learning about the design of the OpenSciEd program, architecture of a unit, and how to navigate the free teacher resources. This event is designed for teachers and leadership teams new to implementing OpenSciEd.
Objectives
- Develop an understanding of OpenSciEd's supports and routines that align with NGSS shifts seen in our Kentucky Academic Standards for Science.
- Deepen your understanding of phenomenon-driven instruction by engaging in an OpenSciEd lesson from a learner perspective.
- Identify student sensemaking and coherence-building features of OpenSciEd's instructional design.
- Effectively navigate the OpenSciEd resources to plan for facilitating student learning in your own school.
